Mr. Schmidt’s practice is concentrated in the areas of construction/professional malpractice defense and products liability defense litigation. Mr. Schmidt also represents the interests of domestic and foreign corporations in litigation across the United States, as well as counsels them on a broad range of corporate law matters. Mr. Schmidt’s experience includes extensive involvement in all phases of complex, high profile, multi-million dollar litigation. He has represented architects, engineers, owner’s representatives, contractors, surveyors and product manufacturers in all types of construction-related matters ranging from breach of contract, delay claims, code violations, negligence and wrongful death actions. Mr. Schmidt has also successfully represented domestic corporations and insurance companies in class actions, construction defect, products liability, breach of warranty and commercial litigation matters.

Before joining Hirschhaut & Schmidt, LLC, Mr. Schmidt was an assistant attorney general for the State of Illinois, where he represented officers, agencies and employees in civil litigation, contract and employment matters. Mr. Schmidt’s experience included representation of the Department of Transportation, Secretary of State and Department of Corrections. Thereafter, he joined Allstate Insurance Company’s Law & Regulation Department where he provided legal advice to national business unit officers relative to employment, contractual and regulatory issues.
